This page tells you which villages around Dholera had land under irrigation in 2011 and how much, and it names the ones that had none at all. It matters because irrigation is the difference between land that grows two crops a year and land that waits for the monsoon.

The short version

Only 27 of the 72 villages recorded any irrigated land. Rojka leads with 3,698.88 hectares, far ahead of Hebatpur at 1,532 and Sangasar at 828.11. Forty five villages recorded none. The scarcity is the finding here, not the ranking.

What this ranking is

This is the last time anybody counted these villages one by one and published the answer. The Census of India sent enumerators to every village in the country in 2011 and asked the same questions everywhere, which is what makes the answers comparable. The amenity questions were asked in 2009. That is old, and we say so on every figure, but it is the only complete, uniform and free record of what was on the ground before the industrial city arrived. If you want to understand what Dholera SIR was built on top of, this is the baseline.

None of this describes 2026. Roads have been built, land has changed hands and the expressway has opened since the surveyors came. Read it as the starting line, not the current score.

Which villages are in it. The 69 villages of Dhandhuka taluka, sub-district code 03787, plus the three Barwala taluka villages that appear on the Dholera development authority's own 22 village boundary map. Seventy two villages in all. Census 2011 has no Dholera taluka because Dholera taluka was only created in 2015, so the villages sit under the taluka names the Census used at the time.

What the numbers say

Three villages in five recorded no irrigation whatsoever. This is the Bhal, a coastal belt with salt affected soil and brackish groundwater, and the census numbers say so plainly. Rojka's 3,698 hectares is an outlier large enough to distort any average of the area, which is why we rank rather than average.

The highest figure is 3,698.88 hectares and the lowest is 1.63 hectares. The middle village of the ranking sits at 50 hectares.

Forty five of the 72 villages recorded no irrigated area at all in 2011. The villages recording nothing are listed under the table, because dropping them silently would make the ranking look more complete than the source is. They are: Adval, Akru, Ambli, Anandpur, Aniyali Bhimji, Bajarda, Bavliyari, Bhangadh, Bhimtalav, Buranpur, Chandarva, Cher, Chharodiya, Chhasiyana, Dhanala, Dholera, Fattepur, Gamph, Gogla, Gorasu, Gunjar, Haripura, Jaska, Kadipur, Kamiyala, Kasindra, Khadol, Khasta, Khun, Mahadevpura, Mota Tradiya, Mundi, Nana Tradiya, Navagam, Padana, Pipal, Rahtalav, Rayka, Salasar, Sandhida, Tagadi, Umargadh, Vagad, Zankhi, Zanzarka.

Census of India 2011, village directory. The amenity questions were surveyed in 2009. These are not current conditions and this site never presents them as current conditions.

Census 2011 land use figures, surveyed in 2009. Villages recording zero irrigated area are listed by name rather than ranked, because zero and unrecorded are different things.

How to use this without being misled

Irrigation status is a farming fact, and here it is also a land value fact. Interestingly, the official rate book barely prices it: across Dhandhuka taluka the median 2011 rate for irrigated land was 78 rupees a square metre against 76 for non irrigated, across 408 and 2,356 rate rows. That is a two rupee difference. Whatever irrigation was worth in this taluka, the stamp valuation did not see it.
