This page sets out what has actually been confirmed about India's approved semiconductor projects, including the two at Dholera, and marks everything else UNKNOWN. It matters because these approvals are the single biggest reason anyone is interested in Dholera, and most coverage of them mixes up companies, places and money.

The short version

Twelve projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission with about Rs 1.64 lakh crore of cumulative investment. Dholera has two of them: the Tata Electronics fab and, since May 2026, Crystal Matrix. The per project money figures have mostly never been published separately, so this table has holes in it and we have left them as holes.

What this page is, and what it is not

This is an incomplete table, published incomplete on purpose. Ranking India's approved semiconductor projects by sanctioned investment is a useful list, and we can only build a third of it honestly, because most of the money figures have only ever been published as combined totals.

So the cells we can fill are filled and cited, and the cells we cannot are marked UNKNOWN. A table with holes in it is more useful than a table with guesses in it, and it is the only version of this page we are willing to publish.

What is confirmed

  • Cumulative approvals under the India Semiconductor Mission reached 12 projects with cumulative investment of about Rs 1.64 lakh crore. Source: Prime Minister's Office, 5 May 2026. CONFIRMED.
  • On 5 May 2026 the Union Cabinet approved two more units with a combined investment of about Rs 3,936 crore and 2,230 skilled jobs. Source: Prime Minister's Office, 5 May 2026. CONFIRMED.
  • Crystal Matrix Limited will build a compound semiconductor fab with assembly and packaging at Dholera, for Mini and Micro LED display modules and gallium nitride foundry services on six inch epitaxy wafers, with announced capacity of 72,000 square metres of display panels and 24,000 sets of red, green and blue wafers a year. Source: Business Today, 8 May 2026. CONFIRMED.
  • Suchi Semicon Private Limited will build an assembly, test and packaging facility at Surat for more than 1,033 million chips a year. Source: Business Today, 5 May 2026. CONFIRMED.
  • Tata Electronics and ASML announced a memorandum of understanding on 16 May 2026, announced by both companies, covering ASML lithography equipment for the Dholera fab. Source: ASML press release, 16 May 2026. CONFIRMED.
India Semiconductor Mission approvals, with the sanctioned investment in rupees crore where a release states it for that project alone. Blank cells read UNKNOWN because the published releases give combined figures. Sources: Prime Minister's Office and Business Today, as named per row.

What is unknown, printed as unknown

  • The split of the Rs 3,936 crore between Crystal Matrix and Suchi Semicon. Only the combined figure has been published.
  • The approved investment for several of the earlier ten approvals. The government press bureau returned an access refusal to automated fetching on 11 August 2026 and we did not read those releases, so we do not quote them.
  • Whether the running total is 12 projects or 13. Sources published in the same week give both figures, and we are not going to resolve that by choosing.

Each of those will be filled in when a release we have actually read states it. Until then they stay blank, and this page will say so.

Why Dholera has two semiconductor projects, not one

This is worth stating plainly because it is regularly muddled. Dholera has the Tata Electronics wafer fabrication plant, approved in February 2024, and it now also has the Crystal Matrix compound semiconductor project approved in May 2026. They are different companies building different things.

Two further corrections that come up constantly. Micron's plant is at Sanand, not Dholera. And Tata Realty, a property company, is not Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing. Seeing the word Tata on a Dholera listing tells you nothing about who is behind it.
